More than 1.6 million FCFA has been contributed by the villagers to support the vigilance committee which watches over the Borough of Mokolo.

The Borough of Mokolo and especially the Crow village in Mayo-Tsanaga Department suffered the attacks from fighters belonging to the Islamist sect Boko Haram in recent months. These attacks have unexpectedly left many families bereaved and others in distress.

To help the Cameroonian armed forces to better monitor the 1800 km of border between Nigeria and, Cameroon the sub-prefect of Mokolo Théophile Nguia Beina has set up a watchdog Committee to work closely with the armed forces and local authorities in providing information and especially to give information on newcomers in the borough.

Traders of periodic markets of the seven cantons who are the first victims and the main targets of the Boko Haram fighters agreed to contribute the sum of 100 CFA FRANCS each per week. The first assessment which took place last week produced more of 1,600,000 FCFA.

This amount collected from merchants will allow "new soldiers" of Mokolo to acquire basic equipment necessary to combat the activities of the sect Boko Haram in their locality. They will be armed in a future very near the machetes, arrows, lamp-torches, whistles, boots and communication credits.
