As part of the Grassfields project to be done in the Northwest, 300 hectares of cassava will be planted to produce 2 million high-yielding cassava cuttings.
This is one of the ambitions of the project to support rural infrastructure and participatory development in the Grassfields for in the northwestern region of Cameroon.
This project aims to equip the Grassfield regions (West, Northwest) with rural infrastructure and agricultural projects to combat poverty.
From this point of view, in order that the culture of cassava, which will be intensified as well (as a result of the availability of the plant material and other inputs) creates more value and guarantees an improvement in revenues to producers, the project also provides the establishment of 10 units of transformation of cassava in the Northwest.
As a reminder, the phase 2 of the above-mentioned project has a budget of 19 billion Cfa francs, of which 12.7 billion Cfa francs is to be disbursed by the African Development Bank (ADB), following an agreement signed on December 16, 2013 with the Cameroonian Government.
The first phase of the Grassfield project, implemented between 2005 and 2011, according to the Government's assessment, allowed them to generate revenue of more than 5 billion Cfa francs for the benefit of the beneficiaries of the project, to rehabilitate 300 km of rural roads, and increase agricultural production marketed by up to 60%.
