At least ten people have already died from the continuations of a cholera epidemic in Cameroon, particularly in the region of the far North where many cases of the disease have been detected.

This recurrence of cholera is of growing concern to the populations, especially since the onset of the rains in this part of the country as well as the influx of Central African refugees and Nigerians is not likely to facilitate interventions.

"Our fears are real, because if the epidemic reached refugee camps, we will attend a massacre," said health authorities.

To stop the progression of the disease, the Ministry of public health with supports from international bodies like the world health Organization of the (WHO) and the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), have deployed teams on the ground.

For the moment, cholera is not yet reported in other regions of the country, although health authorities fear a spread of the disease.
