100 Days to Curtail Corruption in Minepia

The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries (MINEPIA), Dr. Taïga yesterday August 21, 2013 in Yaounde launched the Rapid Results Initiative (IRR), a project conceived by the National Anti-corruption Commission, CONAC, to scale down corruption in government services within 100 days.

The user's guide, a production of MINEPIA, outlines services that warrant payment with the different price tags as well as those that are free. The document is expected to bring to book staff of the central and decentralise services of MINEPIA that charge fees for services to users that are supposed to be free and those that are paid higher than expected.

Setting the ball rolling for the 100 day-corruption campaign in the ministry and other six regions (Adamawa, Centre, Far North, Littoral, North West and West) where the guide has been sent for optimal use, Dr. Taïga cautioned staff of MINEPIA on the need to serve the public without bias and according to Public Service norms.

And to show how serious his ministry was committed to kicking out corruption, Dr. Taïga cited the Head of State, Paul Biya in his December 31, 2011 address to the nation where he castigated corruption as not only being responsible for draining the State coffers, but for also retarding economic growth. He vowed to stop at nothing to combat the ill.

Ebai Moses, Section Head for Evaluation and Control of Performance at the Permanent Secretariat for Administrative Reforms (SPRA), said the 100-page booklet, in its first edition was carefully produced to spell out all services rendered by the ministry, their costs, the deadlines for obtaining documents and where to go to for different services. He assured the public that the fight was not going to end at the production of the book, but that efficient follow-up mechanisms have been put in place.
