14 sworn into judicial police

14 police officers and gendarmes took an oath on Monday at the headquarters of the special criminal court (CHT) in Yaoundé.

The judicial and solemn engagements of each of these junior officers of the judicial police were received by Chief officials of the jurisdiction, which was led by the Chairman of the CHT, Abdou Yap. The execution of this formality allow these newest members of the specialized officers of the judicial police of the CHT, created by a Decree from the president of the Republic in May 2013, to be able to perform their duties.

These skilled workers are however "personnels non officiers ", as permitted by article 11 of the aforementioned Decree. They constitute inspectors of police, marshals-de-logis, peacekeepers and policemen who will help to facilitate investigations.

The magistrate, responsible for the prosecution to which this body is attached, explained to the recruit the three types of duties entrusted to them. The first, in the order listed, is the duty to reserve. While adopting a behaviour that preserves the image of justice, the officers are required to remain discreet on the facts and acts they will be able to gather from their investigations. They must then exercise restraint by limiting their actions within the hierarchical commands.

Finally, the Attorney general enjoined them to incompatibilities of the judicial police and its indifference to gainful activities.
