15,000 Accredited to Observe Polls

About Fifteen thousand election drawn from various Civil Society organisations and other international bodies are expected to monitors are expected to monitor Cameroon's legislative and municipal elections slated to take place on 30th September 2013 across 22,000 polling stations nationwide.

According to the country's Ministry of Territory Administration and Decentralization eleven thousand of observers have been accredited already ahead of the elections and they will be drawn from bodies such as the International Francophone Organization (OIF), Transparency International (TI) and the Catholic Church of Cameroon. Other poll monitors to check on the integrity of the elections include missions from the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms (CNDHL), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Commonwealth.

The decision of the Cameroonian authorities to accept the deployment of such a large number of observers from various bodies is a testimony of their willingness to meet the conditions for the holding of free, fair and transparent elections.
