18,000 youths sensitized on violence against women

This was during the closing ceremony of the 8th edition of a global campaign on Wednesday in Yaoundé.

More than 18,000 young people and teachers were sensitized on violence against women for over two weeks during the eighth edition of the global campaign of 16 days of activism on violence against women in Cameroon.

This was during the closing of the eighth edition chaired by the Minister for the advancement of women and the family (Minproff), Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa Obama.

This edition rich in activities started November 25. "These two weeks was dedicated for intensified awareness and advocacy to the effect of triggering the social appropriation of combating violence against women and girls on the one hand and develop a new social culture based on respect for the human rights of these social categories on the other hand", said the Minproff.

It is therefore in this context that a series of educational seminars and awareness sessions were organized in schools and universities. "This was to permit adolescents who are the parents of tomorrow appropriate respect for women's rights, integrate it as one of the guiding principles of their lives and later become promoters convinced and convincing legality of beings humans", explains Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa Obama.

On December 04, the Department of secondary education organized a roundtable on violence against women in schools. Minproff minister concluded her remarks by asking everyone to work for the advent of a society in which women no longer suffer violence but assert themselves as human beings and full citizens, guaranteed of sustainable development.
