200 youth launch clean-up exercise towards end of year festivities

The end of year festivities is just around the corner and similar to previous years, the city of Douala prepares to indulge in the season with beauty and cleanliness.

On 20th October, at a sober ceremony involving 200 school drop outs selected to participate in this activity at the urban community in Douala were received by the Government delegate, Dieudonné Monthe.

Divided in two workshops, general cleanliness and painting, these young men and women will, for a month, contribute to the cleanliness of the city.

Those in charge of painting will have to paint bottom of trees, edges of pavement on the streets and all buildings near the road with white paint.

Other young people, will, meanwhile, take care of drain gutters, to remove weeds and debris. This is aimed at giving a more beautiful and clean image to the city of Douala. In addition, the choice, this time of involving youth who are school drop outs, is designed to combat idleness.

During their reception at the esplanade of the Cud, the rules of procedure which governs the program "Young Occupation" was read at the place to the 200 participants. They were lectured on why they should adopt virtues like diligence, respect, work, good use of materials etc.

The program "Young Occupation" was set up in 2008, to help young people during the holidays, to finance part of their studies and contribute to their development while working.
