A pass of 45.77 per cent was recorded in the Ordinary Level with 55.97 per cent in the Advanced Level general.

The 2013 results of the General Certificate of Education, GCE, have been released with a general improvement in the performance of candidates.

According to statistics read over the national radio yesterday July 31, 2013, at the GCE Advanced level, 21,197 candidates passed as against 37.870 candidates who sat for the exams thereby giving a percentage pass of 55.97 per cent with an insignificant improvement to last year's performance.

For the Ordinary Level, some 37,380 candidates have been declared successful as against 81,675 who actually took the exams giving a success rate of 45.77 per cent as compared to 42.88 per cent in 2012.

Meanwhile, GCE Technical also witnessed a sharp improvement at both the Technical Ordinary and Advanced levels with 45.25 per cent and 65 per cent respectively. Some 39 Advanced level candidates recorded outstanding results scoring all the 25 points.

The Sandpit vicinity that hosts the office of the Cameroon General Certificate Examination, GCE Board, in Buea was in a frenzy mood yesterday following the publication of results of the 2013 session of the GCE examinations. Candidates and non-candidates alike who had flooded the vicinity in a bid to get information about their results or those of their relations could not contain their anxieties. While some were busy making frantic efforts to get into the GCE Board premises to no avail, others were seen glued to their mobile telephones either receiving or making calls to distant candidates.

According to the CRTV Radio's national station, some eleven schools have scored a 100 per cent at the Advanced Level while 14 schools scored 100 percent in Ordinary Levels. Six schools also have more than 300 successful candidates at the Advanced level. Meantime, results of the Apostolic Technical College in Nkwen, Bamenda have been with-held for alleged fraud pending investigations.
