The Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim has paid a visit to the Far North region of Cameroon to evaluate the construction of schools to host refugees and displaced persons in the region.

During her sojourn in the region, Minister Youssouf Hadidja Alim visited the construction sites of Mayo Sava and Mayo Sanaga.

She expressed satisfaction with the work already done and hoped that its completion is imminent.

The educational facilities include 208 classrooms in Mayo Sanaga and Mayo Sava Divisions, latrines, wells, 6240 benches for pupils and 200 teachers’ tables.

The construction of new classrooms and other educational facilities is a direct effect of the Boko Haram insurgency. Due to attacks by the terrorist sect, some 130 schools closed down leading to overcrowding in the few available schools.

The Head of State, H.E Paul Biya recommended an emergency plan to help resettle the refugees and displaced persons.

In all, a total of 87 schools are going to benefit from the about 3.6 billion CFA francs programme.

Other areas to be visited by the Minister include Mokolo and Kousseri in the Mayo Sanaga and the Logone and Shari Divisions respectively.
