The principal recently launched a fight against the wearing of veils in his establishment.

The principal of Lycée Classique de Yagoua, Party Madjina is resolutely determined to combat the wearing of headscarves by young girls in his school.

On Friday, October 10, 2014, he ordered that a systematic search of bags of girls is done in order to verify whether they contained scarves.

More than 300 scarves were seized and burned in the courtyard of the school under the watch of the students and teachers of Lycée de Yagoua. Among the victims of the destruction of the scarves was the daughter of chief imam of Yagoua. Many parents immediately denounced this Act which they see as an abuse of power and authority on the part of the principal.

"It is true that the principal has every right to ban the wearing of headscarves in the institution. But what right has he to afford to search the bags of our children to extract their scarves. If they do not have the right to tie them within the institution, they are free to do once out of the framework of the establishment. It is out of respect after instructing the children that they keep the scarves in their bags and how can he afford such an abuse?" a parent of a student of the Lycée de Yagoua decried.

The wearing of the veil for Muslim girls is a mandatory practice. Also, they eventually integrate this clothing accessory in their school outfits. The practice is commonplace in several establishments in the region of the far North.
