36,080 commemorate IWD in Yaounde

Women commemorated the International Women’s Day with a grand parade presided over by the personal representative of the first lady, Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa Sunday.

According to organizers, 36,080 women took part in the march pass at the 20th May Boulevard in the presence of the Minister for the advancement of women and the family, Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa, personal representative of the first lady of Cameroon.

The ceremony actually started at 10:00 with the arrival of the personal representative of Mrs. Chantal Biya at the Boulevard. A bunch of honourable women carried a large flag of Cameroon, large banners bearing the theme of the 30th International Women's day, the 12 critical areas adopted at the end of the Conference in Beijing in 1995, as well as effigies of the head of State and Mrs. Chantal Biya opened the march pass.

Then women working in the ministries of sovereignty, the General and financial administration, education, training and research, communication, culture, youth, sport and recreation, health, business and the social security, emulated by members of civil society, religious and family associations. There were also women's networks of the Department of Mfoundi.

The ladies of the embassies of the United States and France, the nationals of CAR, Cote d'Ivoire, DRC, Chad, Nigeria were remarkable. Also present at the march were association of refugee women, workers promoting second-generation agriculture.The visually impaired and disabled were applauded by the audience as they marched.

The women marched according to their industries exhibiting their know-how, Agri-food products for those working in the agricultural sector as well as women from other sectors. Ladies of the Minproff completed the parade.
