4.4 million Africans to receive micro-insurance

"Micro insurance caters for all those who may not have access to traditional insurance. All we ask is that the conditions are sufficiently flexible so that even the peasant can have access."

The concern of Jean-Claude Ngbwa, SG of the inter-African Conference of the insurance market (CIMA), is echoed in the Learning sessions on micro-insurance, opened yesterday, September 8, 2014, in Douala. Theme at the heart of these study days which have been launched by Nana Djibrila, representative of the Minister of Finance: 'Protect the small workers'.

They will focus, until tomorrow 10 September, to reflect on the development of the concept of micro-insurance in the 14 members States of CIMA.

The meetings, as stated by the SG of the Conference, "draw on the experiences of international experts and stakeholders of the markets most advanced to develop products appropriate to adopt the best distribution channels to reach the poor of our States by combining the simplicity of procedures, the costs of premiums and above all safety and protection of the insured".

The Micro-assured that Cameroon will potentially recruit will be from moto-taximen, bayam-sellam, small farmers, shopkeepers, artisans. It will also be an issue to ensure that the conditions of payment of the premiums are the simplest possible, so that the 10 days scheduled for the micro-assured be respected.
