43rd National Day: Highlights from regions

All the ten regions of Cameroon took part in celebrations marking the 43rd National Day in strong support for the military.

In all ten regional capitals, celebrations were similar to that at the May 20th Boulevard in Yaounde presided over by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya Commander in-chief of the Arm Forces.

In the Littoral Region, Cameroonians congregated at the newly constructed Boulevard Besseke in Bonanjo and was chaired by the Littoral governor, Joseph Beti Assomo.

The military parade commanded by Colonel Tamunjong Sammy Nkwenti head of operations and land power in the second combined military region, took place in two phases.

In separate factions, the troops from the gendarmerie, infantry, air force, navy, firefighting brigade, the police penitentiary administration, customs and wars veterans marched past in front of administrative and other top military officials in the region.

The award of medals to some 250 beneficiaries and the omnipresence of sixteen political parties constituted some highlights of celebrations in the region.

In the South Region, Governor Jules Marcellin Ndjaga in the presence of some foreign delegations from Gabon and Equatorial Guinea presided over the celebrations.

Like in other regions, the military marked the day with their characteristic show of strength and discipline.

All factions of the military once again expressed commitment to defend Cameroon’s territorial integrity. While pupils, students and party militants expressed attachment to state institutions through patriotic songs. Some 30 medals were conferred on deserving Cameroonians in the region.

In the Far North Region, a detachment of 80 Chadians soldiers took part in the march past that was dominated by the Cameroon’s military. Understandably so because, the Boko Haram insurgencies has caused the displacement of a number of Cameroonians of school going age in the region.

In the North West Region, the Social Democratic Front, S.D.F and the ruling party Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM once again dominated the celebration through their massive presence. Governor Adolph Lele L’afrique watched with admiration the thousands of students and pupils dressed in very attractive uniforms.

In each region, not only did the military express strength and loyalty, they did also displayed sophisticated weaponry.

Civilians through the different messages displayed on placards once again prayed for peace, expressed solidarity and congratulations their military.
