The marking exercise kicked off effectively in the Buea and Bamenda centres on Tuesday 25 June. The last but one phase of the 2013 session of examinations organised by the GCE Board has gone underway in Buea and Bamenda marking centers with about 6,000 examiners involved. The marking exercise that started on Monday 24 June, 2013 with chief examiners proposing and harmonising marking guides, went into full gear Tuesday with trial marking and other procedures.
When CT visited the Bilingual Grammar School (BGS) Molyko, Buea, which plays host to three marking centers, the examiners of Ordinary Level English Language were still locating their different halls while others were still registering their presence. Others were also seen carrying benches to their halls.
According to one of the examiners, Williams Nkafu, they are very ready for the marking exercise which might last for about 12 working days. Ordinary Levels Economics, Biology, English Language and Literature in English are some of the subjects being corrected at the BGS Molyko campus. Baptist High School (BHS) Buea and the Presbyterian Comprehensive Secondary School (PCSS) Buea are the two other marking centers in Buea.
One of the Chief female examiners, who preferred not to be named, said the teachers are expected to be hardworking and disciplined in strict compliance with the motto of the GCE Board of "measuring learning with honesty". She said no difficulty has been registered so far given that the exercise has just started. A team of GCE Board staff alongside temporal secretariat workers employed by the Board is on standby to provide the necessary logistics and assistance to the examiners.
