7 Boko Haram attackers killed, 25 captured

The Communications Minister informed the national and international public that on the basis of information indicating the presence of militias of the terrorist group "Boko Haram" in Cameroonian localities of Ngouma, Sagmé, Ardébé, Damboré et Soueram, located in the vicinity of Lake Chad, the Cameroon defence forces conducted a series of large-scale operations in this region Saturday, December 6, 2014.

A month ago, these communities had been the subject of serious abuses on the part of the terrorist group "Boko Haram", causing extensive damage to the population.

Operations conducted by our Cameroonian defense forces on the basis of the information received, lasted for four days and as a result, seven (07) assailants were killed and twenty-five (25) caught, not to mention those who drowned after they fell into the El-Béid River during their flight.

Several military equipment were also seized during the offensive of the Cameroonian forces. No loss is noted on the side of Cameroon.

In addition, other terrorist units belonging to the group "Boko Haram" attempted to carry out an incursion into Cameroonian territory in the localities of Amchide and Limani through an armoured vehicle and under the cover of heavy artillery. The responsed again from the Cameroonian Army was rapid, appropriate and meteoric.

A column of vehicles that were preparing to cross the border at height of the Borough of Bankim, was neutralized. More than 20 vehicles still in flames have been destroyed with their occupants. Two casualties were recorded on the side of our defence forces. They were evacuated to the town of Maroua in the far North, where they are currently supported in a hospital room. Their lives are not in danger.

The Minister of communications seized this opportunity to once more, welcome on behalf of the Government, the bravery and determination of the Defence Forces in combating the peril of the terrorist organization, Boko Haram, in the region of Extrême-Nord in particular, and in General and the preservation of the territorial integrity of the country at any time and in any circumstance.

On behalf of the Government, the Minister of Communication urged the Cameroonian peoples to redouble their vigilance and to continue to lend their support, regardless of the form or nature, to our defence forces, where the people of Cameroon, through its national representation, recently adopted a legislative framework appropriate to the fight against terrorism, in order to protect property and people living on the territory from any threat.
