7 Boko Haram members killed by Cameroonian army

Seven suspected members of the Islamic sect Boko Haram were killed on Saturday, May 7, 2016, in the locality of Homeka – in the Far North Region – during a search operation conducted jointly by the army and vigilante committees.

According to well introduced sources, no loss of life was recorded on the Cameroonian side. The same night, the army also seized a man suspected to belong to Boko Haram, who had disguised himself as a madman, in the locality of Boudvare, still in the Far North.

The locality of Homeka has already been targeted by members of the Islamic sect. We remember that on 11 March, two suicide bombers, suspected members of the Islamist sect Boko Haram, blew themselves up on a Friday, a cattle market day at the entrance to this city.

These terrorists, who fortunately did not make any casualties apart from themselves, activated their load after being surprised by members of a vigilante committee, they tried to slip between the houses to blend into the crowd that was beginning to flock to the scene.

Vigilante Committees are increasingly put to use in the war that Cameroon has been fighting for almost 3 years against Boko Haram. In his address to the Nation on December 31, 2015, the Head of State, Paul Biya, welcomed the contribution of these vigilante committees.

During his visit to Nigeria last Tuesday and Wednesday in Abuja, President Paul Biya and his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari, also noted with satisfaction the success achieved so far in the fight against the insurgency Boko Haram, also condemning the murderous activities perpetrated by this group in the two countries and other states of the Lake Chad Basin.
