After the last session of 2012, the next convening of this body by the president of the Republic is highly anticipated by the judiciary.
On August 8, President of the Court of appeal of the Centre, Emmanuel Arroye and the Attorney general near the Court, Jean-Claude Robert Foe made public the list of magistrates of judicial jurisdiction definitively proposed to the progress table. After such presentation, the judiciary now awaits the President of the Republic for a final decision.
The list consists of 74 judges including 13 in 4th grade, 44 in the 3rd grade and 17 in 2nd grade. This selection follows the work of a Special Committee which brought together the heads of the courts of the ten regions of the country, two weeks ago at the Ministry of Justice in Yaoundé.
The magistrates involved in the advancement in rank then await the holding of the next higher judicial Council chaired by the head of State, Paul Biya, so their promotion is endorsed. The Higher Council of the judiciary will also look into the case of student magistrates out of Enam, called listeners of justice, waiting for their integration.
There are more than 500 from 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 from ENAM awaiting promotions. Deployed on the ground by the Minister of Justice, these listeners of justice, placed at the disposal of the presidents of the courts of appeal and who assist the judges in their task are without salaries since they left school.
Moreover, during the next meeting of the Council, records of appointments and assignments of judges in all courts of the country and the Department of Justice will be validated. We remember that it was at the last Council, which was held on April 18, 2012 that the judges of the special criminal court were appointed.
