A befitting med. school building inaugurated at Douala Univ.

MINESUP, MINSANTE bosses cut the ribbon of the FCFA 2.3 billion jewel on August 6 in Logbessou, Douala.

The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FMPS) of the University of Douala can now boast of a well-constructed three-storey administrative block situated at the Logbessou neighbourhood in the Douala V municipality.

The FCFA 2.3 billion administrative block which occupies a land surface of 3,100 square metres and has a capacity of 3,000 places was constructed within a timeframe of 36 months by the Groupe Somaf enterprise.

Going by the factsheet, the master piece comprises, among others, 33 offices, 14 lecture halls, 10 toilet blocks, eight laboratories for practical works, three archive rooms, two research laboratories, two libraries, two cold rooms, a waiting room, a befitting meeting hall and an anatomy mortuary.

After the inaugural rituals performed by the Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo and his counterpart of the Ministry of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, on Wednesday, August 6, the Project Head guided the bosses on a thorough 30- minute inspection tour.

On each floor, they asked questions and received clear answers from the team of engineers. Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo and Minister André Mama Fouda, pleased with the structure, enjoined both lecturers and students to guard it jealously.

Since 2006, the five departments under the faculty were lodged at the René Essomba building at Campus I and the Rudolf Douala Manga Bell structure at Campus II of the University of Douala.

According to officials, the 1,338 students of the faculty will start classes in the new structure in October 2014.

The inauguration ceremony that also saw the graduation of some 189 laureates of the faculty was graced with the presence of the Littoral Governor, Joseph Beti Assomo, the Rector of the University of Douala, Prof. Dieudonné Oyono and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea.
