These warnings were given at a press conference held recently by an association of persons with disabilities. "New cases of poliomyelitis arising of late proved that, this virus came about through the negligence of vaccinations by parents, remarked Mr Ebimbe, of the regional delegation of public health. He was speaking recently, at a press conference given by the Cameroon Association of persons with disabilities for the awareness and the fight against polio (Acphslp).
The meeting, held at the premises of the secondary centre of civil status 1, Douala, Bonanjo, had several objectives. Firstly, made to all the request to the media to create awareness as the association gave out 'crutches' as part of the sensitization of people to combat polio. Then, the Acphslp leaders, including its president, Martin Nsim Kalassini, made it known that they will be holding an event later in the month at the opening, of "a market of 400 persons with disabilities awareness" on 29 August in Douala.
Finally, a few tips of prevention against the disease were given. Mr. Ebimbe, who represented the regional health delegate, reminded all that the vaccination of children who are the most vulnerable start from 0 to 10 years.
