The project for the African Centres of Excellence was launched by the World Bank in collaboration with the countries of West and Central Africa, to meet the increasing needs of higher education in Africa.
On the occasion of the 2nd workshop of the project for the African Centres of Excellence, slated for 18th to 20 November, 2014, in Yaoundé, Hilton Hotel, 90 leaders from the academic world, the representatives of the Governments of eight countries of West Africa and the Centre will meet to discuss ways of helping the universities to make investments and concrete improvements in order to raise the quality and relevance of higher education in the region.
The project will strengthen 19 centres of excellence in West and Central Africa. It proposes to invest approximately $8 million in each centre.
One of the central elements of this workshop will be to stimulate collaboration between African universities in order to raise the level of training and the quality of the programmes and make them tender to an international level.
