The 24th edition of the African Statistics Day has opened this 18th November 2014 under the theme: “Open Data for Accountability and Inclusiveness.”

This event will draw statistic experts nationwide to discuss strategies on improving on Africa’s statistical system.

According to some statistic experts, the celebration of this day will also serve as an opportunity for businessmen to be schooled on ways of improving their business enterprises through statistics.

African Statistics Day was introduced in 1990 by the African Conference of Ministers of Economy and Planning and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

The objective was to raise public awareness on the importance of statistics in economic and social development.

Activities to mark the celebration of this day have been organised under the auspices of the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development and the Higher Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics.

Participants will also be schooled on new methods of analysing data during an ordinary session to be organised by the National Statistic Council on Thursday 20th November 2014.
