The Mayors of Bafut, Tubah and Bamenda I Councils have been praised for producing high-quality food crops and tubers for local and foreign consumption.

The praise came from the administrators of Mezam, Divisional Delegates of Agriculture and other stakeholders in agriculture during the recent annual mini-agro-pastoral show organised in collaboration with councils.

The Mezam Divisional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development, George Ngwang Nfor, appreciated the efforts of the Mayors for investing in agriculture and offering prizes in cash and kind.

“Your Subdivisions constitute a major bread basket in Mezam Division in terms of food crop production. This gives the government reason to support farming activities in these areas through many projects and programmes,” Ngwang Nfor said.

Bafut Mayor Abel Langsi Ngwasoh, whose council spent over FCFA 3.5 million on farm tools in the form of prizes to farmers, said the 32 villages of Bafut have witnessed great improvement in agricultural yields.

He cited crops such as the new variety of rice known as Nerica 56 and red maize, Njinja, as the best crops Bafut can offer.

The Mayor of Bamenda I, Caroline Bi Bongwa, expressed optimism that her Subdivision will again emerge victorious with the best products at the Regional and National levels as was the case last year.

In Tubah where the five villages that make up Tubah Subdivision, in collaboration with Mayor Martin Tanjong, on Saturday, December 12, 2015, held the population spellbound with improved tubers, plantains and handicraft.

The best farmers were given farm inputs for better yields in the future.
