A dozen suspected members of Islamist sect Boko Haram were reported killed Friday evening in the town of Djibrilli in the far northern part of Cameroon, following heavy fighting with the Cameroonian army, security sources told APA.According to the source, which does not specify whether casualties were recorded among the government forces, explained that the fighting was sparked by an attempt of the terrorists to infiltrate into Cameroon from Nigeria.
Earlier, a double suicide bombing blamed on Boko Haram, killed 20 and wounded 52 at Meme market not far from the Djibrilli.
This series of attacks comes just days after the Cameroonian army said it had destroyed a command post run by the Islamic sect in the Nigerian town of Ngoshe.
Dubbed “Arrow Five” this operation, carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian armed forces and the forces involved in the joint multinational force against Boko Haram led to the capture of 162 jihadists.
During the operation, 15 Cameroonian hostages, including seven members of the same family were freed and taken back home.
According to government spokesman, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Cameroon is more than ever committed to do away with the extremists.
