Army kills 8 Boko Haram operation commanders, arrest 15

The Cameroonian military has killed at least eight Boko Haram operation commanders and arrested 15 others in the country’s Far North Region.

Special forces of “Operation Alpha,” which was created to fight the Boko Haram terrorist group entering from Nigeria, attacked the terrorist camp in the town of Bomeri in Cameroon.

The military seized arms, ammunition and 20 motorbikes after the attack. This comes as Boko Haram militants captured the town of Damasak in Nigeria’s Borno State on Monday, media reports said.

Earlier this year, Boko Haram seized the towns of Gwoza, Bama, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa, Mafa as well as some surrounding villages, all in Nigeria’s Borno State. The group has claimed responsibility for many deadly shooting attacks and bomb blasts in various parts of Nigeria since the beginning of its operations in 2009.

More than 10,000 people have so far been killed in the attacks. According to the UN refugee agency, almost 650,000 Nigerians have been forced from their homes by Boko Haram attacks and are displaced inside the African country, while thousands more have taken refuge in neighboring states. Thousands of Nigerians have fled to northern Cameroon in recent weeks in the wake of advances by Boko Haram.
