After the neutralisation of the insurgency following three simultaneous attacks by Boko Haram in the Far North, Cameroon’s defence forces are on high alert.
Cameroon’s fighter jets went into action for the first time since the beginning of the conflict against the terrorist group Boko Haram, last December 28, 2014.
According to a statement from the Minister of Communication, Issa Bakary Tchiroma, released on December 29 in the national press, about a thousand assailants stormed the Achigachia camp early in the morning of 28th December 2014, and attacked Cameroon defence forces.
The soldiers reposted trying to defend their positions. After the offensive from the defence forces that left two victims on the Cameroonian side, the attackers were neutralised after losing several fighters in the combat operation.
The Minister indicated that the casualties on the part of the terrorists will be made available after necessary evaluation.
As the terrorists engage in multiple simultaneous attacks with large numbers of fighters, the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, order the reinforcement of the air force.
The Minister indicated that, Cameroon defences forces work day and night, risking their lives in the frontlines for national safety and security. “Our soldiers fight with determination to stop the aggression of the terrorist. Their commitment and faith allowed them to surmount their enemies on one such incursion recently”.
Seven members of the terrorist group were taken as prisoners, while about fifty assailants were killed in the cross fire.
These highly patriotic efforts are constantly saluted by the Head of State, Chief of the Army, Paul Biya and the Cameroonian people and especially those who live near the warzone, he added.
