Two weeks after the horrendous scenes witnessed by inhabitants of Mimboman neighbourhood in Yaounde, with the discovery of female corpses and their genitals and other organs removed, the Sub-Divisional Officer of Yaounde IV, Ousman Yampen, and the Mayor of Yaounde IV in the Kondengui neighbourhood, Regine Amougou Noma on Wednesday February 6 made a field visit to the neighbourhood to earmark roads that need major rehabilitation as well as the different streets in which public security lights need to be increased.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Yaounde IV said the field visit was one of the urgent actions recommended by the Senior Divisional Officer of the Mfoundi Division to examine what can be done to improve security in the neighbourhood. "With a highly dilapidated road and lack of streets lights in the area, such factors favour insecurity," Ousman Yampen noted.
For over four hours, Ousman Yampen, Regine Amongou Noma alongside forces of the law and order and technicians made a tour of the neighbourhood in a bid to identify significant roads that need urgent work. Despite the unbearable secondary roads in the area, the delegation went an extra mile to tour all the "quarters" that make up the Mimboman neighbourhood, talking to the population as well as seeking the opinion of village heads on those roads that they think are vital to the population and must be rehabilitated.
After the visit, Ousman Yampen said the technical team will get to work to produce a concrete plan on what can be done on some of the poor roads. According to Ousman Yampen, some 10 kilometres of secondary roads in the Mimboman neighbourhood will be transformed. He however noted that the government did not wait for sad moments before beginning road work in the Mimboman neighbourhood for he explained, the rehabilitation of the main road leading to the neighbourhood started two months ago. During the visit, the Sub-Divisional Officer told the population that they have not been forgotten by the government for measures are being taken to solve their most pressing problems. He also encouraged those who have not registered on the electoral list to do so as soon as possible.
