Think tank deliberate on how to boost tourism

The Prime Minister, Head of Government Philemon Yang has chaired the 11thsession of the National Tourism Board in Yaounde.

During the meeting at the Prime Minister’soffice, the prevailing security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin and in the Gulf of Guinea were the central themes discussed during the sitting.

Also on the table for discussion included strategies to revamp abandoned tourist sites, more publicity on the country`s potential and the inaccessibility of some tourist destinations in the country.

Discussing the different challenges faced by the sector, the Minister of State, Minister of Tourism and Leisure Bello Bouba Maigairi said insecurity has impacted negatively on the Tourism sector in the country.

The Minister saluted the fact that members of the council have resolved to work in synergy with stakeholders to revamp the tourism industry.

The resolution is timely given the fact that Cameroon is preparing to welcome a thousands of visitors during the 2016 and 2019 African Nations Cup in the women and men categories respectively.

Minister Bello Bouba Maigairi insisted that the present security challenges notwithstanding, Cameroon needs to be considered an important tourist destination in the African Sub-region.
