BTS success rate falls in 2014

The results made public on Friday, August 8 showed a 5% decrease in success rate as compared to 2013.

The verdict of the result for the June-July 2014 session of higher technician's certificate (BTS), was issued recently. With 7,511 admitted and 13,204 candidates registered this year, the success rate mathematically revolved around 56.88%.


A decrease of 5% compared to the 2013 session, where the results showed 62%. The Ministry of higher education (Minesup) however rejoices on the average performance, indicating that before 2013, it rarely reached 50% success rate. In 2012, for example, the success rate stood at 41%.


It recalled that during the 2014 session, information published in certain media reported an unrest in Yaoundé and Douala. According to these newspapers, dated June 11, candidates for the BTS journalism option, writing at Institut du Golfe de Guinée and at Ecole supérieure de gestion, tore their paper as a sign of protest.

The reasons for their actions being that, one of the papers presented to them excluded the subject, corporate communication and marketing and they added that they were given a practical paper instead of a theoretical paper.


"The disputed test was analyzed by a University Professor, who is also a trained journalist. The students were not required to go out to the field; Candidates simply had to make a synthesis and a press kit. "However, according to Prof. Pegnyemb, "no script was torn by the candidates during the 2014 BTS.


He acknowledged that, difficulties such as transporting papers and the late registration of the candidates however occurred, but nothing interfered with the examination.
