Mrs. Koudjou Anne, a resident of Yaoundé Bamena has been locked up in cells since last Monday at Mboppi Police station for allegedly stealing a baby. She has been accused of trying to steal a four-months baby belonging to one Linda Christelle Yonda who lives in Madagascar, a town close to Douala.

The old woman was arrested on Monday night at the BuTrans travel agency by some policemen who were on patrol. Prior to her arrest on the bus, she had ordered food in a restaurant, close to the bus station.

Carrying a baby wearing a knitted dress and pampers at the late hours of Monday, she attracted the attention of the police. The police reportedly questioned the woman who could be in her sixties as to why her baby was badly dressed and without a cloth to cover him. They ordered her to cover the baby properly in cloth.

They approached her again when they spotted her carrying the baby still without good cover cloth. This made them suspicious leading to a series of questioning.

During the interrogation, she was betrayed by her confused answers to questions like the sex of baby, baby's mother and destination.

She was immediately taken to the Mboppi police station where the commander ordered for a radio announcement to be made. Christelle Linda Yonda who had been searching for her baby everywhere finally arrived at the police station Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015.

Witnesses account says that on Linda's arrival, her baby immediately recognized her and fell asleep in her arms shortly afterward. Mrs Koudjou Anne, the alleged baby thief is however still locked up in cells.
