The 2014/2015 academic year has effectively kick-started across the national territory following the official reopening date of 8th September 2014.

Roadside congestion, uniforms of all colours and the excited voices of pupils and students announce the successful start of the 2014/2015 new school year.

According to heads of institutions, the turnout has been encouraging. Azeh David Mofor, Principal of PCHS Bamenda for example indicates that over 80 percent of his students showed up in the presence of all 61 staff members.

The massive turnout according to some is proof that preparations for the final exams begin on the first day of school.

As he launched the present academic year, the Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes encouraged students and teachers to improve on last year’s performance.

Meanwhile, the nursery section opened up with chanting of rhymes, amidst tears from some very young kids who cannot cope with the momentary separation from parents and care-takers.

A parent, Nchowai Ibrahim commended the efforts of some school teachers who warmly received children as young as three years including his.

Few regions in Cameroon however recorded a timid start. One of such is South West with an approximate 50 percent attendance rate according to Bernard Okalia Bilai, Governor of the region.
