Northwest governor, Lele L’Afrique has urged traditional authorities of the two warring villages, Bamukumbit and Baligansin to show restrain while a permanent solution to the land dispute is sort.

The governor made the call after a crisis meeting he held at the Divisional Office Balikumbat with representatives from both villages, the administration of Ngoketunja Division and Balikumbat Subdivision, the fon of Balikumbat and other neighbouring villages, behind closse doors.

The governor accompanied by Kwella Valerie Norbert (SDO for Ngoketunja), and Ngwa Martin Manjong (D.O Balikumbat) led a delegation to the conflict area passing through Baligansin and then Bamukumbit.

The delegation made a stopover at the residence of the first victim of the conflict, one Paul shot dead, where they met his pregnant wife before visiting the homes of some residents destroyed in the conflict.

At Bamukumbit, the governor was presented with a catch of arms and ammunitions confiscated from local residents after a door to door search. Two persons from Bamukumbit have been arrested as well.

An uneasy calm has descended in the conflict zone, albeit with the heavy presence of elements of the gendarmerie. There are also unconfirmed reports of a second person killed on the Bamukumbit side.

The bone of contention here is the establishment of a government secondary school Baligansin on a piece of land claimed by Bamukumbit.

Meanwhile the corpse of the late Paul has been transported to the Bamenda Regional Hospital Mortuary.
