Bamenda II DO mobilizes 7m to support Boko Haram fight

The DO of Bamenda II sub-division, Itoe Mbongo Peter has mobilized the population of his area of command to raise a sum of nearly FCFA 7 million to contribute to the fight against Boko Haram.

The amount of the first round of collection was tallied during a meeting that was held in the conference room of the Dos office recently.

Amongst those who contributed were the Bamenda II council that gave FCFA 100,500, contribution from staff to the DO by mayor Awa Balick Fidelis.

The principal of GBHS Bamenda Down Town who supervised collection in secondary schools paid in the sum of FCFA 487,000, basic education government schools coughed out 451,000 frs, professor Ephraim Ngwafor donated FCFA 500,000, Essoka Security handed in FCFA 200,000 Ntarikon credit union paid FCFA 100,000 an elite Tawah Crecy coughed out FCFA 50,000.

Travel agencies in the north-west region such as Musango Bus service, Mondail Express, Moghamo Express, Guarantee Express amongst others donated amounts ranging from FCFA 20,000 to 40,000.

On the four traditional Fondoms that make up the Bamenda II subdivision, contributed FCFA 245,000 Nsongwa gave in FCFA 125,000s while the Fon of Mankon sent a delegation that announced at the meeting that he will bring his contribution soon.

That of Chomba village is yet to be received. The Mankon Traditional council also paid in an amount which could not be immediately gotten by press time.

During the meeting, it was also revealed that several groups that have been contacted to contribute have expressed enormous enthusiasm to do so.

Given the short notice, some of these groups are still to hand over their contributions to the DO. Earlier, the Bamenda main market traders had surprised the DO with a cash package of FCFA 1.2 million. The DO told the donors that a special account had been created in the regional treasury where the money would be deposited.

He immediately formed a committee in which he was member alongside some forces of law and order to take the money directly to the treasury which is located about 100 meteres from his office.

DO Itoe Mbongo Peter thanked those who donated various sums of money to Cameroonian soldiers as well as other victims displaced by the war.

According to him, Cameroonians in Bamenda II cannot afford to be indifferent when hundreds of their compatriots are suffering from the scourge of war up north. He said since Boko Haram is facing enormous pressure from the Cameroon army, Cameroonians should not relent in their efforts to support them thinking that the war is over.

He advised that Boko Haram activities can spread down south, if the north proof difficult to penetrate. For this reason, he urged the population to remain vigilant and report any cases of suspicious individuals in their neighbourhoods to the competent authorities for action.
