From the look of things, the Bamenda Industrial zone in the neighbourhood of Nkwen, Bamenda III sub division is taking shape.

Barely two years since basic studies were launched to develop the zone, the 44 hectares of exploitable land carved out is virtually ready for use.

Visiting the zone recently, the General Manager of the Industrial Zones Development and Management Authority (MAGZI), Christol Georges Manon was impressed with the quality of road works and energy supply to facilitate the planting of industries in the zone.

In effect, phase one of work to set the pace for the zone to go operational already showcases about two kilometers of good earth roads that stretch from Starlight junction, transversal roads and box culverts on stable soils to ensure good drainage.

Facing the press after the visit to size up the level of work, the General Manager, Christol Georges Manon revealed that the rush to belong to the zone has started with some 10 of the total 44 hectares of exploitable land already booked by economic operators.

Phase two of the project is expected to tar the main access way into the industrial zone that is expected to emerge as a resource centre for the Bamenda-Enugu corridor.

The creation of the Bamenda industrial zone is traced back to April 17, 2008 when the project was presented to the population of Bamenda by MAGZI. A site visit later set the pace for the General Manager, Christol Georges Manon to launch demarcation works in the presence of local administrative and traditional authorities on May 11, 2009.

Another landmark day was March 20, 2012 with the decree incorporating the piece of land into the private domain of MAGZI ahead of basic studies to develop the zone on February 13, 2012.
