Bamenda Journalists urged to resist injustice

The North West chapter President of Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists CAMASEJ says for media professionals to “diligently serve” Cameroon they must resist injustice with all their might. .

According to the President the media professionals “should not mislead the innocent, always expose and excoriate evil in any shape or form, be constructive and objective in all we say write and do….. Commend and not discredit merited achievement and should serve without hope.”

In two separate presentations on the event’s theme which was “access to information and foundatal freedom. It is your right.” Nestor Njodzefe course instructor in journalism and public relations and Barrister at Law Mbutton Harmony Bobga established that access to information and press freedom were difficult things to get in Cameroon. Despite the laws, there is need for journalists to make an extra effort particular legally.

Past presidents of CAMASEJ NW received special recognition for their commitment in keeping the association till date. Four of them (Choves Loh, Chris Mbunwe and Comfort Mussa) as well as the current president Rosaline Obah received a certificate of Recognition each and an internet modern from MTN Cameroon. Journalism lecturer and retired CRTV worker Gideon Taka also received the recognition and the internet modern for his continuous contribution in the sustenance of the journalism profession.

20 other persons received certificates of recognition for efforts in promoting Press Freedom through their various institutions and establishments amongst them Che Samuel Ngwa (Pa Ngwa) news paper vendor for 47 years in Bamenda, Ngong Gilbert Ngong photographer, Musa Shey Nfor, Prof Tih Pius Muffih Director of CBCHS, Tangyie Suh Nfor Principal of GBHS Bamenda, Doumana Louis Roger NW delegate of transport, Dr Kingue Thomson Director of Bamenda Regional Hospital, SDF National Chairman John Fru Ndi, Awemu Charles Delegate of transport Fundong, Dr Nick Ngwayam CEO St Louis University Institute, Ngala Edward Founder of Capitol, Laura Anyola of Justice and Peace Archdiocese of Bamenda, and for institutions Les Brasserie du Cameroun SABC, Cameroon Cooperative Credit Union league CamCCUL, and the Muna Foundation.

The inspector General of Regional services at the NW Governor’s office in a closing remark congratulated the recognized persons and institutions as well as CAMASEJ for their partnership with the government. Makogue Ivo Charles cautioned the media professionals to avoid sensational journalism and be responsible in the practice of the noble profession.
