The national Union of professional drivers of transportation in Cameroon (SYNCPROTCAM) has just decided on an unlimited withdrawal of services from August 5 on the corridor linking the economic metropolis of Douala to the Central African capital Bangui, in protest against violence and killings perpetrated against truck drivers.

In a notice addressed to the Minister of External Relations, it requires that "sustainable solutions be made" to these multiple murders Cameroonian transporters suffered in this neighbouring country. This reaction occurs in the aftermath of the assassination, July 14 in Bangui, of a ‘motor-boy’ named Hamma Gambo Djallo, who fell, according to the protesters, in the hands of the antibalaka militia.

The dead of Hamma, SYNCPROTCAM says, brings to mind the number of Cameroonian truckers killed through violence.

In June, we recall, Cameroonian transporters, who transport CAR from the port of Douala, had already witnessed several days of strike after the assassination of one Adamou Oumarou, a driver in Bangui.

The unionists had agreed to resume the road only after assurances of security measures made by the authorities of the two countries.
