Bar Council Elections: Common Law Lawyers endorse Sama Francis

They met in Bamenda over the weekend to agree on a common front. Common Law practitioners have resolved to move to the January 31, 2015, elective General Assembly of the Cameroon Bar Council as a united team.

A strategic planning meeting` of their association in Bamenda on January 24, 2015, endorsed the candidature of incumbent President, Barrister Sama Francis.

It emerged from the session that wisdom and Common Law tradition prevailed over ambition in their decisions which also endorsed the candidature of Barrister Stanislus Ajong for Vice President of the General Assembly.

Emeritus Bar Council Presidents like Akere Muna and Luke Sendze, co-chaired the session. It is regular for the nation’s Common Law lawyers to meet on the eve of elective General Assemblies of the Bar Council. This time around, Barrister Akere Muna told Cameroon Tribune that wisdom dictated that their association should move to the Assembly as a common front to protect their interests because unity is strength.

Barrister Luke Sendze advised their candidate, Sama Francis, to patch up any misunderstanding to enable Common Law lawyers to lead a formidable team to the general assembly. Barrister Stanislus Ajong, who led some 44 lawyers from the South West Region, said the Bamenda event set records straight for Common Law lawyers who believe in decorum and seniority.

Against the backdrop of dissenting voices with the stated ambition of some young generation lawyers in Bamenda to lead the Bar Council, Luke Sendze told Cameroon Tribune that little problems cannot become exceptional among colleague Common Law lawyers.

It also emerged from the corridors of the session that Common Law lawyers also stand by the incumbent General Assembly President, Barrister Tang Emmanuel. Among the lot who participated at the Bamenda event were Barristers Philomena Sendze, Fet Aloysius Sama, Kemende Henry, Mbah Eric Mbah, Kameni John and Lang Peter.
