Barbering salons nationwide have seen major innovations in recent times with the introduction of VIP salons championing the scene.
It is commonplace to see such salons scattered all over the national territory and offering diverse services from shaving to hair treatment.
A stop-over at one of such places keeps one spellbound over the happenings therein.
Air-conditioned room, plasma television, swivel chairs, mirrors all over, hair treatments, oils, shampoos, shaving machines and hair dyes amongst others, explain the quality of services offered in the VIP salons.
With tariffs ranging from 1,000 to 20,000 CFAF, customers are able to get a stylish haircut, as well as a hair or facial treatment.
The moment a customer arrives the location, he or she is welcomed by staff dressed in a uniform, a sign of orderliness in the salon.
A VIP hairdresser, Apong Kelly notes that his customers are impressed with the quality of service.
He further explains that their services include shaving European texture hair, wedding cuts, ‘Rihanna’ cuts and ‘babyliss’ for ladies and simple cuts in general.
In the meantime, some Cameroonians go after the VIP salons for the want of quality as they say ‘looking good is good business’ while others prefer the least expensive old salons.
However, the existence of VIP areas for haircuts has not stolen the show from the local salons. An operator of one of such, Emmanuel Yuven says he still receives his usual customers even with the advent of VIP salons. His prices range from 200 to 500 CFAF, a total contrast to the VIP system.
