A two-day workshop for pedagogic supervisors opened on Tuesday, April 1, in Yaounde.

The rate of school drop-outs due to their failure in examinations has been a cause for worry in the country over the years. A study from the Forum on Education in 1995 revealed that failure in schools have internal causes such as language barrier, lack of sufficient qualified teaching staff as well as the lack of evaluation and monitoring of results, among others. Other external causes include poverty, ignorance of parents, certain cultures and traditions.

It is in this light that a two-day training workshop for pedagogic supervisors on remedial teaching opened in Yaounde on Tuesday April 1, 2014. Speaking at the opening, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim said Universal Primary Education is a priority action in the ministry's road map. She said the workshop will enable the officials to seek ways and means to draw up modalities to establish a link between the policy of collective promotion and modules of compensatory pedagogy. She called on participants to work hand-in-glove and come out with concrete proposals in order to enable teachers improve their skills in the classrooms and equally improve the education system in Cameroon.

The workshop aimed at providing the officials with appropriate managerial skills to successfully implement remedial teaching that will in turn assist pupils with learning difficulties.
