Basic Education boss visits Exams centres

Minister Youssouf née Adidja Alim yesterday visited some examination centres in the Centre and South Regions.

Some 396,715 pupils who will be making their first entrance into different Secondary schools in the country next academic year, yesterday June 14, 2016 started sitting for the written part of the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and Certificat d'Etudes

Primaires (CEP) examinations which end today. At the start of the examination, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf née Adidja Alim and some of her close collaborators yesterday June 14, 2016 visited some centres in the Mfoundi Division of the Centre Region. During her tour, she noted with satisfaction the serenity that characterised the unfolding of the exercise.

The 1st stop of the Minister and her delegation was at the Government Primary School Efoulan in the Yaounde III ubdivision where some 552 pupils (258 boys and 294 girls) were on dictation for the Certificat d'Etudes Primaires. It was disclosed that the centre registered nine absences. It was also revealed that some 10 candidates had problems of identification after misplacing their acceptance slips as well as examination numbers attributed to each candidate from the time they started writing the Common Entrance Examination.

Before leaving for the South Region where she continued with the same exercise, the Minister of Basic Education appreciated the manner in which the examinations were being carried out in the Centre Region. She instructed the Secretary General of the Ministry of Basic Education, Bisse Bea, to continue with the same exercise in the Yaounde IV, V, II, I and VI Subdivisions of the Centre Region.

At the Government Primary School in the Mvan neighbourhood in Yaounde, Bisse Bea and other officials of the education community also witnessed a serene environment. The Mvan centre hosted candidates from nine primary schools in Yaounde amongst which are two public schools and seven private institutions. Amongst the 404 pupils that registered for CEP at the Mvan centre, only 393 were present while 11 were absent.

The delegation later moved to the Government Bilingual Nursery and Primary School at Mballa IV in Yaounde. The centre hosted candidates for CEP and FSLC. Those for FSLC were answering questions in Arithmetic. The chief of centre, Esther Achu said but for some stubborn parents who insisted to stand around the school premises to wait for their children, so far, the examination is taking place hitch-free.
