Basic education officials prepare for 2015-2016 school year

In order to ensure a smooth school reopening for the 2015/2016 academic year, a two-day meeting of officials of the Ministry of Basic Education took place in Yaounde on August 20, 2015 on the theme: “Pedagogic supervision for quality and inclusion in teaching and learning.”

Speaking at the opening, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouff Hadidja Alim, said the 2014/2015 academic year was successful. She however admitted that there were some difficulties, especially with the insecurity that led to the closing of some schools in the Far North Region.

There was also the influx of refugees along the borders in the Adamawa, East and Far North Regions, lack of teachers and the abusive migration of teachers to other ministries without the consent of the Ministry of Basic Education, among others.

She called on the officials to work hand-in-glove to come out with concrete proposals to enable the ministry develop appropriate strategies to give youths quality and more inclusive education.

The objective of the meeting was to present a balance sheet of the 2014/2015 school year and plan for 2015/2016. In the 2014/2015 academic year, there were 6,772,856 pupils, thus 701, 508 in nursery and 6,071,348 in primary schools.
