From the past few weeks, the numbers of deaths from the Measles epidemic at Benakuma have increased to nine.
From the time the epidemic broke out, two children were reported dead. But as of now, seven others have died making a total of nine out of the numerous cases of Measles that were diagnosed.
From the time of the out- break, 106 cases of Measles were registered, out of which 85 of them were resolved not as compared to the present statistics which has augmented to 148 children affected.
In reaction to this, the North West Region Governor Adolf Lele L’Afrique has urged a team of health experts dispatched a few weeks ago when the epidemic erupted to reinforce their capacities in ensuring that the disease be completely eradicated from the region.
Presently, a strict vaccination campaign has been organized in eight villages under the Benakuma Health District whereby children ranging from 0 to 10 years are being vaccinated even though under reluctant conditions by their parents.
It should be noted that 53 Health Districts Nationwide have registered cases of Measles out of which 11 of them are located in the North West Region.
