The president of the Association ‘Citoyenne de défense des intérêts collectifs’ (ACDIC) of Cameroon, Bernard Njonga, has made known his resignation "for personal reasons" on October 13, 2014 in Yaoundé. As a Design engineer in agronomy, from the École nationale supérieure agronomique (ENSA) in Yaoundé, he has held this position since 2003.
Bernard Njonga had resigned from the public service (Institute of agricultural research of Yaoundé, IRAD) in 1987 "due to personal reasons and his passion for the rural world. He is one of the pioneers of the Service to support local development initiatives (SAILD), of which he became the Secretary General until 2003.
As such, he was in charge of setting up the dynamics of peasant organizations in rural areas of the country, which resulted in the creation of the journal ‘the voice of the peasant’ (LVDP) as well as the documentation Centre for rural development (CDDR).
In 2003, the Organization redirected it course to focus on rural areas to teach farmers to ' scratch ' the ground for better productivity. Mr. Njonga left the secretariat general of the SAILD to participate in the creation of the ACDIC.
He was cited in Jeune Afrique among "the 100 personalities making it in 2010" in Cameroon. He multiplied initiatives aimed at the advent of a food sovereignty policy in his country. He notably was ringside in about 40 peasant organizations in Cameroon, claiming the formation of a hundred leaders of civil society associations.
In the field of the safeguarding of the interests of his country, and apart from the animation of an agricultural program called 'Agricultural frequencies', broadcast on a dozen rural radios, he proposed a "Pact for rural development" to candidates for the presidential election in 2011, signed by 19 of 23 applicants. He then engaged in an awareness campaign for the cleanliness of public buildings.
His resignation from the Presidency of ACDIC does not mean he will cut ties with us or he was abandoning the fight for a cause he also believed in. "we will probably meet in the again maybe to address a different cause in a renewed fight, and then I hope that you will continue to support us," he added.
