Mengang CPDM militants have been advised to focus on the election of councillors for now.

As the September 30, 2013 date for the parliamentary and local council elections in the country draws nearer, supporters of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, CPDM, in Mengang Subdivision in the Nyong and Mfoumou Division of Centre Region have been cautioned against speculating on who will be the next Mayor and to instead focus on the election of their local councillors.

Speaking in the locality on Saturday, September 21, 2013, the Nyong and Mfoumou Divisional Campaign leader, Prof. Robert Nkili said an election was like a 'njangi' or a thrift and loans group. The task of party members now is to elect councillors and ask them to render account of their stewardship later, he explained. The CPDM, Prof. Nkili noted, is a big family and there should be no question of internal wrangling for a position that is yet to be filled.

The divisional campaign leader commended Hon. Akamba Assembe for his humility in accepting the fact that he will not be going back to Parliament. He urged the Mengang Council campaign leader, Prof. Bruno Bekollo Ebe, to ensure that electioneering is taken closer to the people. On his part, Prof. Bekollo said there was no problem with the councillorship list and that campaigning had in reality ended. He reassured the divisional electioneering team of the usual support of the council area and subdivision to the party of President Paul Biya.

To party supporters, Prof. Bruno Bekollo Ebe warned that it was not enough to attend rallies and sing the praises of the CPDM, but that they needed to withdraw voters' registration cards and ensure that they vote rightly come Election Day. The gathering also saw the presentation by Prof. Nkili of Mengang councillorship candidates and the two parliamentary hopefuls for Nyong and Mfoumou, Hon. Roger Nkodo Dang and Catherine Mfoula.
