The 14th General Assembly meeting of the Bible Society of Cameroon has ended in Yaoundé with members from the ten regions taking firm commitment to forge ahead with their mission of translating, producing and distributing the Holy Scriptures in various forms at affordable prices, raising funds and helping people reading God's word in the language they understand best.

This was one of several other resolutions arrived at by the end of the 3-day meeting that took place at Centre Jean XXIII of Mvolye in Yaoundé under the chairmanship of the Board Chair of the Bible Society, Rev Jean Libom Li Likeng. He said the 14th General Assembly initially planned for 2012 failed to take place because of systematic reforms in the Universal Bible Society that affected national ones.

They resolved to create kids’ biblical programmes in the ten regions, to contribute financially in order to complete their head office building in Yaoundé as soon as possible so that their next meeting should be held there, to remobilize their former donors, to undertake field trips, to develop efficient policy for Bible distribution, to organize a day of prayer as a means to reach out to other churches who are not yet members of the Bible Society, to organize Bible feast on Sundays, create partnership with the media, to multiply cultural activities such as the Bamenda Kids Games accompanied by information programmes etc.

Thier theme, “Let us go forward according to the same rules we have followed until now,”was taken from Philippians 3:16

In a chat with The SUN, the Director General of Bible Society of Cameroon, Luc Gnowa said “We are particularly blessed this year because unlike in the past, this General Assembly brought together members from the English speaking parts of the country; North West and South West Regions have also joined now.

Following an 87% renewal of the Board members during our brainstorming, we are confident that fresh blood has been injected into the team so that we can produce more results.

Currently the Bible Society of Cameroon which is a nonprofit making Christian organization created since 1959 has already produced the whole Bible in 15 national languages, New Testament in 46 languages and portions in a number of different languages.”
