The incident which occurred on Friday in the locality of Bindimba, also left three wounded, and placed under intensive care.
A mining site, belonging to a Korean company, based in the locality of Bindimba, about thirty kilometers of Garoua-Boulaï, in Lom-and-Djérem, broke down on September 19, out of seven gold washers. The victims are residents who come to exploit the mining sites abandoned by the owners.
According to testimonies collected on the site of the drama, the provisional assessment of this collapse gives a report on four dead and of three severely wounded persons. "One of the casualties is even seriously reached", according to the mayor, Esther Yaffo Ndoe.
Mrs. Esther Yaffo Ndoe reconsidered the circumstances of this tragic incident to condemn the attitude of the people."On September 19, we received a distress call from the bordering populations of Bindimba, informing us of the collapse of a mining site with seven people. We organized at once a descent on the ground with the administrative authority to organize the rescue and first aid," explained the mayor of Garoua-Boulai.
On the place of the incident, the sub-prefect Laurent Ndieng Djang, and his staff found the residents already mobilized to extract the bodies of the victims. In a dash of solidarity, the authorities gave their support for these rescue efforts.
