Cameroon Journal, Yaounde – President Paul Biya has called on the international community to find better answers to injustice and the poverty that breeds terrorism.

He spoke at the Unity Palace in Yaounde, January 5, while receiving 2016 New Year wishes from members of the diplomatic corps.  He cited various terrorist groups and the atrocities they are causing throughout the world.

According Biya, only the determined solidarity of the international community can lead to success in the fight against terrorism. He enjoined the world to put their efforts together in terms of intelligence and combat efforts. The United Nations Organisation and the international community, he said, must give priority to fight terrorism.

Biya also touched on the problem of migrants and refugees from the Middle East and Africa to Europe, attributing it to the many conflicts in the regions. He observed that Cameroon equally faced the problem of refugees as the country is host to hundreds of thousands of refugees who have escaped from the sectarian fighting in the Central African Republic and Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria.

Faced with the upsurge of migrants and refugee crises, Biya prescribed human solidarity that would lead to reasonable solutions. Cameroon’s Head of State reminded members of the diplomatic corps that security was a precondition for the existence of all people. He said only development can guarantee peace and survival of nations.

According to Biya, the world is currently unable to put together necessary conditions for solidarity in development. This, he explained is due to international economic crisis.

He prescribed authentic international economic solidarity as a solution that will give opportunities to all policies of diversification of economies.  He added that the economic solidarity be based on two pillars that include co-prosperity and co-responsibility.

Biya used the occasion of the New Year wishes to state Cameroon’s resolute fight against the terrorist sect Boko Haram. He thanked Cameroon’s friendly countries for their support.

The Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon Monsignor Piero Pioppo in his capacity as the dean of the diplomatic corps led the delegation to extend the wishes to Paul Biya.
