Cameroon Journal, Yaounde – The National Chairman of the leading opposition party in Cameroon, John Fru Ndi, says President Paul Biya’s 2016 New Year address to the nation could have been one of his richest speeches because it was void of diversions that characterized his previous speeches.

Biya’s speech he said, did not have fallacious promises that can never be fulfilled.

Fru Ndi said the address however, left much to be desired. He said the speech did not make mention the state of roads in the country.  Fru Ndi said the state of roads in Cameroon was important in relation to Biya’s reiteration that Cameroon would host the female Cup of African Nations in 2016.

He stressed that the female continental football event cannot be a success without a good road network. He wondered whether Biya meant to let Cameroonians believe that by the time the football competition takes off, that the stadia would have been constructed and the state of the road network improved upon.

The SDF chieftain expressed disappointment at the fact that the construction of stadia is being carried out using foreign loans, whereas in other countries that hosted the competition, stadia were constructed using  fallouts from participation in football competitions.

He wondered aloud what happened to the money Cameroon gets from participating in similar competitions.

He regretted that Cameroon’s female football team that has brought honour to the country through its recent splendid participation in international competitions has been badly treated. He cited an instance in which the players were abandoned in Yaounde Mont Fébé Hotel for reasons of unpaid allowances, whereas the team officials got all their allowances.

He warned Paul Biya and his administrators to be honest and safe the country from the shame of embezzlement and banditry during the upcoming female football competition.  Fru Ndi appealed to Biya to take all measures to fight the phenomenon of trafficking access tickets into the stadia. He said Cameroon is already ranked the second corrupt country following Transparency International report and if football adds to the situation, then it would be terrible.
