The mechanic that services President Biya’s official cars, including the Presidential Limousine that broke down in public last May 20th, is alleged to have been arrested today in Yaounde.

The Cameroon Journal cannot independently confirm the story, but a source who forwarded the photograph above to us, said the arrest took place today, May 23. The photo shows a group of four police officers, all in uniform, escorting a man who appears to be a high profile civil servant in suit with hands apparently handcuffed to his back. Details about him were not revealed to us..

Last Friday at the 20th May Blvd in Yaounde, on the occasion of the celebration of Cameroon’s national day, President Biya’s official Limousine broke down and refused to move, bringing a major embarrassment to the President who was already alighted in it waiting for take-off for the ritual of troops review. The President was subsequently transferred into a different Limousine for the exercise and the broke down limo pushed out of sight to the embarrassment of state.

Since the incident, there have been steaming speculations as per the fate of the mechanic who works on Biya’s cars, especially in the light of what happened to state officials who bought a faulty plane that almost killed the President and his family, few years ago.

We will bring further developments as the story unfolds.
