The premises of the headquarters of the Club for Rehabilitated Blind Youths (CJARC) in Ekie, a Yaounde neighbourhood, were exceptionally busy on Wednesday June 19, 2013.
The event was a ceremony to inaugurate a well donated by the Swiss Confederation and the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the first bilingual primary school for blind children. Speaking during the double ceremony the Swiss Ambassador to Cameroon, Urs Berner said CJARC has long lasting relations with his country.
He said collaboration between the two countries is that of eliminating all forms of discrimination. He expressed hope that the well will help improve the hygienic conditions of inmates and prevent them from water born diseases and more especially help them improve their spirit of sharing. He called on the inmates to show that they are human beings who know how to share by sharing the water to people in that neighbourhood.
The President of CJARC, Coco Bertin thanked the Swiss government for their support and continuous concern for the blind in Cameroon. He said the laying of the foundation stone marks a new beginning for CJARC towards the emergence e of Cameroon. The first Bilingual Primary School for the Blind Louis Braille will be an inclusive school for all disabled children. The school will have 80 pupils with 18 classrooms. The event was in prelude to the 25th anniversary celebration of CJARC on August 4, 2013.
